Above are a few pictures of my dad, a man like no other. He was always there to catch me when I fell or started to fall, a testament to his love and care. I cherished him for it, even when his actions weren't always what was best for me. But that was his way of showing love. He used to say things like, 'If you're going to ask for one dollar, you might as well ask for five,' and in his infinite wisdom, he said, 'Keep your pants up and your skirt down,' and lastly, always 'pay yourself first.' I only listened to the first one--I was always bold in asking him for money. And he almost always gave it to me. He was opinionated, and sometimes he was downright mean, especially to the men in my life. No man was ever good enough for his little girl. I feel like he accepted Tony since when he asked about him, he used his name and not some derogatory term. Every holiday, he gifted me with chocolate. Maybe that's why I love sharing chocolate with others. One thing is for sure: I miss him deeply.
I hope to always remember the good times and forgive the bad. And I hope there's chocolate in Heaven so he knows I'm thinking about him.
Warmly, Mona
Here's my dad in 1954, seven years before I was born. I'm sure I wasn't even a thought. He had his way about him, even when riding. This picture must have been taken in West Virginia, where he was born. There wasn't anything he couldn't do, and he worked hard to provide for his family. I remember when I was just a little girl, he would take me to work at the A&P Tea Company, where he was the produce manager and let me color signs for the fresh produce. I loved making the signs for the strawberries. It was so much fun.
You might ask what this newsletter has to do with my chocolate business. It has everything to do with my chocolate business because it was my dad who taught me to believe that I could do anything that I truly wanted to do. I have Sweet Mona's because of his belief in me. Thank you, Dad!
It's FREEZE-DRIED candy time! How's it done? First, the candies are frozen to a very low temperature. Then, a high vacuum is applied, turning the ice from the frozen candies into vapor, bypassing the liquid phase.
